According to 'The Daily Star' newspaper, the post was made from Yunus's official page, and his senior assistant press secretary, Fayez Ahmed, also shared it in the government's press wing's WhatsApp group. This made it clear that the post was not fake but originated from the government level itself.

As the matter heated up, Yunus's office had to remove the post. The government faced a barrage of criticism. People said that asking for donations in a serious matter like an accident reflects the government's failure. One user wrote, "Where did the 1200 crore Taka from last year's flood fund go?"
