The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on February 7, 2026, but tensions between India and Bangladesh regarding cricket are already escalating ahead of the tournament.
Sports News: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now made its position clear regarding the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh has indicated that it will take its next step only after receiving an official response from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Concerns raised about the venues for this mega tournament, which is to be held in India due to security reasons, have sparked considerable discussion in the global cricket community.
The T20 World Cup 2026 is slated to begin on February 7, 2026, and is scheduled to be hosted in India. However, even before the tournament begins, cricket-related tensions between India and Bangladesh are making headlines. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has written a formal letter to the ICC outlining its security concerns and requesting consideration of changing the venues.
BCB Awaits ICC Response
Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam confirmed to the media that the board sent an email to the ICC on January 4th. The letter clearly stated that there are serious questions regarding the team's safety in light of the current situation concerning the India tour. For this reason, Bangladesh has adopted a stance of not traveling to India for the time being.
Aminul Islam clarified that this decision was not taken hastily. He stated, "We held two important meetings with all the board directors on this issue. In the current situation, we do not feel it is safe to send our team to India. Security is our biggest concern." The BCB President also explained that the board initially planned to raise three key points before the ICC, but ultimately decided to proceed with a formal and focused demand.
He stated that Bangladesh wants the ICC to listen to this matter seriously and convene a meeting soon, so that all concerns can be discussed in detail.

No Direct Talks with BCCI
Aminul Islam also clarified that there have been no direct talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) throughout this entire process. He said, "This is an ICC tournament, so all our conversations are only with the ICC. What steps will be taken next will entirely depend on the ICC's response."
This statement clearly indicates that Bangladesh views this issue as a security matter related to an international tournament, rather than a bilateral dispute. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has taken another significant and surprising decision: it has decided to ban the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) in the country. This means that Bangladeshi cricket fans will not be able to watch the IPL 2026 matches on TV or other official platforms. This decision is being seen as a sign of growing tension in India-Bangladesh cricket relations.
