Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 will take place on Thursday across 121 constituencies in 18 districts. A total of 3.75 crore voters will exercise their franchise from 7 AM to 6 PM. The fate of several prominent candidates will be decided.
Bihar Election: Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is scheduled for Thursday. Generally, the polling time has been set from 7 AM to 6 PM. However, considering security and local conditions in some assembly constituencies and booths, the Election Commission has reduced the voting hours.
The Election Commission has decided that voting at all booths in Simri Bakhtiyarpur and Mahishi assembly constituencies of Saharsa district, and Tarapur, Munger, and Jamalpur assembly constituencies of Munger district, will conclude by 5 PM. Additionally, polling at 56 booths in Suryagarha will also be held until 5 PM. For the remaining booths in Suryagarha, voting will continue from 7 AM to 6 PM.

In the first phase, voting will be held for a total of 121 assembly constituencies across 18 districts of Bihar. These districts are:

- Siwan
- Saran
- Muzaffarpur
- Vaishali
- Darbhanga
- Samastipur
- Madhepura
- Saharsa
- Khagaria
- Begusarai
- Munger
- Lakhisarai
- Sheikhpura

Total Voters and Booths in the First Phase
In the first phase, a total of 3 crore 75 lakh 13 thousand 302 voters will exercise their franchise. This includes 1 crore 98 lakh 35 thousand 325 male voters, 1 crore 76 lakh 77 thousand 219 female voters, and 758 third-gender voters. A total of 45,341 booths have been set up for polling, comprising 45,324 main booths and 17 auxiliary booths.
In this phase, the fate of several prominent candidates will be sealed in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). These include Mahagathbandhan's Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Sinha, folk singer Maithili Thakur, Bhojpuri film star Khesari Lal Yadav, Janashakti Janata Dal's Tej Pratap Yadav, Janata Dal (United) state president Umesh Kushwaha, and Bhola Yadav.
Controversial and Prominent Candidates
The fate of JD(U) candidate Anant Singh, recently arrested in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav in Mokama, will also be decided in this phase. The destiny of 16 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government will also be sealed in EVMs in the first phase, including 11 ministers from BJP and 5 from JD(U).
Key Candidates and Parties in the First Phase
The details of candidates from the NDA in the first phase are as follows:
- 57 candidates from JD(U)
- 48 candidates from BJP
- 13 candidates from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)
- 2 candidates from Rashtriya Lok Morcha
The candidates from Mahagathbandhan are as follows:
- 71 from RJD
- 24 from Congress
- 14 candidates from Left parties
Additionally, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Communist Party of India (CPI) are contesting on six seats each. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) is fielding candidates on three seats, and the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) on two seats. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party also has 118 candidates testing their fate in this phase.
Points to Note During Voting
The Election Commission has appealed to voters to reach the polling stations from the morning itself. Maintaining security and peace during voting is essential. Voting will not be possible without a voter ID card or other valid documents. The Election Commission has made strict security arrangements at polling stations to ensure peaceful conduct of polling.
