Bihar to Add 12,817 New Polling Stations for 2025 Elections

In Bihar, the Election Commission has restructured polling stations, adding 12,817 new centers. The total number of centers will now be 90,712. This will provide relief to voters from long queues and improve the voting process.

Bihar Election 2025: In the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, voters will not have to stand in long queues on voting day. Following the directives of the Election Commission of India, the number of polling stations in the state has been significantly increased through restructuring. 12,817 new polling stations have been created, bringing the total number of polling stations across Bihar to 90,712. The aim is to ensure that each center has a maximum of 1200 voters, thereby simplifying and facilitating the voting process.

Restructuring Done Along with Special Intensive Revision of Voter List

The Election Commission of India is conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list based on the situation as of July 1, 2025, across the country. The plan to restructure polling stations in Bihar was formulated as part of this process. All District Election Officers in the state have completed the restructuring of polling stations accordingly.

Strategy Formed After Taking Suggestions from Political Parties

To make the restructuring process transparent and consensual, District Election Officers in all districts held meetings with representatives of recognized political parties. In these meetings, suggestions were invited from all parties regarding the restructuring. Based on the suggestions received, a proposal for the restructured polling stations was prepared and sent to the Commission, which has approved it.

Previously 77,895 Polling Stations, Now 90,712

Prior to the restructuring, there were a total of 77,895 polling stations in the state. Following the Commission's approval, this number has been increased by 12,817 new centers. A key feature is that 12,479 of these new polling stations have been set up in the same building or premises for the convenience of voters, eliminating the need for people to go to a new location. Only 338 polling stations have been relocated to nearby premises. This will not only provide convenience to voters but also enable better logistical arrangements.

Information Shared with Political Parties

A special meeting was organized on Saturday with representatives of all recognized political parties, in which the district-wise numerical list of restructured and newly constructed polling stations was shared. The aim is to ensure that all parties can convey information about these centers to their workers and supporters so that voters do not experience confusion.
