Bihar-Nepal Border Joint Operation Uncovers Major Drug Smuggling Ring

In a joint raid on the Bihar-Nepal border, police and SSB apprehended a smuggler with 218 grams of brown sugar and Rs 1.90 lakh. Continuous action is being taken against drug trafficking in border areas.

Kishanganj: A major drug smuggling network has been busted in a joint operation by the police and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) on the Bihar-Nepal border. In a raid conducted in the Galgalia police station area of Kishanganj district, 218 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1.90 lakh in cash, and Nepalese currency were recovered. A smuggler named Shiv Sahni, who has reportedly been active in this illegal trade for a long time, was arrested during the operation.

Special Team Formed After Secret Information

Kishanganj police received intelligence that brown sugar was being bought and sold from a location in Darbhangiya Tola, Galgalia police station. Upon receiving this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of SDPО Mangalesh Kumar Singh.

This team, along with the 41st battalion of the SSB, conducted a joint operation and raided the area. Shiv Sahni was apprehended at the scene during the raid and interrogation began.

218 Grams of Brown Sugar Seized in Raid

Police officials stated that further investigation was carried out based on the confession of the arrested youth, leading to the recovery of 218 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1.90 lakh in cash, some Nepalese currency, and mobile phones.

The recovery of brown sugar clearly indicates that this could be a large smuggling network. The police are now investigating where Shiv Sahni procured the contraband and to whom he supplied it.

India-Nepal Border Becoming a Hub for Smuggling

Due to Kishanganj and its surrounding areas being adjacent to the Nepal border, they are often targeted by smugglers. Smuggling of liquor, drugs, and other narcotics is frequently intercepted here.

Recently, police in the Mahuawa police station area of Motihari district recovered 4.6 kg of cannabis and arrested two smugglers. Similarly, Babarganj police in Bhagalpur district apprehended a youth named Deepak Kumar with 2.67 grams of brown sugar.

Criminal Record of Arrested Shiv Sahni

The police have stated that the arrested accused, Shiv Sahni, has been previously involved in the brown sugar trade. His past records are now being examined, and his contacts are being investigated.

Investigating agencies believe that this is not an isolated incident but part of the activity of an organized gang. It is anticipated that several more names may emerge during the interrogation.

Growing Concern Among Local Residents

The continuous incidents of smuggling have increased the concern among residents of the border areas. People are saying that the administration needs to work more rigorously to protect the youth from drug addiction.

The police and SSB have stated that continuous campaigns will be conducted to curb such illegal activities in the border region, and prompt action will be taken on any information received.
