A dumper loaded with bricks overturned onto the boundary wall of a house in KK Colony near the NH-11 bypass in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district on Monday afternoon after the road reportedly caved in, triggering panic in the area. The incident occurred at around 12 pm, and residents said the impact was so loud that many initially believed an earthquake had occurred.
An elderly woman, Razia, narrowly escaped injury in the incident. According to information provided, she had been sitting in the veranda where the dumper overturned until about 10 minutes before the accident and had moved inside a room shortly before the vehicle crashed into the house.
Local residents said the dumper was passing near a pit dug for pipeline work when it reportedly lost control, slipped off the road and overturned directly onto a house boundary wall.
The impact severely damaged the house’s main wall, while bricks were scattered into the courtyard and inside rooms. A water tank and other structures on the property were also damaged.
Residents said panic spread in the area after the crash. Local people rescued the driver and a worker trapped inside the dumper, but both reportedly left the site shortly after being brought out.
Allegations were also made that they attempted to erase the vehicle’s number plate before leaving to prevent identification of the dumper.

Local residents and the affected family blamed negligence in construction work for the accident. Eyewitnesses said road excavation had been carried out by L&T for pipeline installation.
According to residents, the pits were not properly filled after work was completed and were instead covered only with soil. They alleged that the ground caved in as the heavy dumper passed, causing the vehicle to lose balance and overturn onto the house.
The affected family said the house suffered extensive damage in the incident, with preliminary estimates placing losses between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
The boundary wall was completely damaged, marble flooring in the courtyard was affected and the water tank was broken. The family has sought compensation and action against those responsible.
Local resident Ishaq and others said the impact was so loud that many believed an earthquake had struck. Razia said she heard a sudden loud sound and felt the ground shake, leaving her frightened.
Residents and family members said panic spread in the locality following the incident.
Residents have demanded a high-level investigation into the incident and strict action against the agency accused of negligence in construction work.
They have also sought appropriate compensation for the affected family.
