Bumrah's Five-Wicket Haul Keeps India in Contention Against England

Jasprit Bumrah's deadly bowling prevented England from reaching a large score in the first innings, where he took five wickets, keeping India in the match.

Sports News: The second day of the third Test match between India and England was very exciting. On one hand, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, with his five wickets, didn't allow England to reach a big score in the first innings, while on the other hand, KL Rahul played a crucial half-century and stabilized India's innings. By the end of the day's play, India had scored 145 runs for 3 wickets and were still 242 runs behind England's first innings total of 387 runs.

Bumrah's Fifth Wicket Haul, England All Out for 387

England started the second day from 251 runs for 4 wickets in their first innings. Joe Root completed his 37th Test century by hitting a boundary on the first ball of the day. This is his third consecutive century at Lord's. Root was bowled by Bumrah for 104 runs off 199 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. After this, Bumrah also dismissed Ben Stokes (44) and Chris Woakes (0) cheaply, giving England consecutive blows.

Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) struggled in the lower order, taking the score to 387. Mohammad Siraj dismissed Smith and broke the partnership, and then also bowled Carse. Shoaib Bashir remained not out with one run. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets for 59 runs and became the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls on foreign soil. He surpassed Kapil Dev's record (12 times) and achieved this feat for the 13th time.

India's Poor Start, Rahul-Pant Stabilize the Innings

India's start wasn't great. Yashasvi Jaiswal started aggressively but was caught by Harry Brook off Jofra Archer after scoring 13 runs. After this, KL Rahul and Karun Nair added a partnership of 61 runs for the second wicket, stabilizing the innings. Karun Nair was dismissed for 40 runs by Ben Stokes.

Shubman Gill, who had scored a double century and a century in the previous Test, failed to play a big innings this time. He was out for 16 runs off Chris Woakes's bowling. The relief for India was that Rishabh Pant came out to bat. He had been injured while keeping wickets on the first day and didn't keep wickets on the second day. Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in his place. However, Pant's appearance on the field ended concerns about his injury.

At stumps, KL Rahul was unbeaten on 53 runs, while Rishabh Pant was supporting him with 19 runs. A partnership of 41 runs had been built between them for the fourth wicket.

Joe Root Creates History

In this match, England's star batsman Joe Root scored his 37th century in Test career and entered the top-5 batsmen with the most Test centuries in international cricket. This is Root's third consecutive Test century at Lord's, and he became only the third batsman to achieve this feat at this ground. Jasprit Bumrah achieved another major milestone in this match.

He made the record for the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls on foreign soil. Bumrah now has a record of taking five or more wickets 13 times in foreign countries, which is more than Kapil Dev's record.
