Brendan Taylor Joins Elite Club by Reaching 10,000 International Runs

Veteran Zimbabwe batsman Brendan Taylor achieved a significant milestone in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. He completed his 10,000 runs in international cricket. With this achievement, he became the third batsman from Zimbabwe to accomplish this feat.

Sports News: Although Brendan Taylor might not have played a big inning in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, he touched an important milestone in his career. Upon scoring just 20 runs, Taylor became the third Zimbabwean batsman to surpass 10,000 runs in international cricket. Since his debut in 2004, Brendan Taylor has played a total of 287 international matches across all three formats. In these 320 innings, he has scored 10,009 runs at an average of 33.92. During this period, he has hit 17 centuries and 57 half-centuries.

Brendan Taylor Completes 10,000 Runs 

Brendan Taylor made his debut in 2004. So far, across all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20), he has batted in 287 matches over 320 innings. During this time, he has scored 10,009 runs at an average of 33.92. He also has 17 centuries and 57 half-centuries to his name. Before Taylor, Andrew Flower and Grant Flower had achieved this feat for Zimbabwe.

  • Andrew Flower: 11,580 runs in 276 matches between 1992 and 2003 (average 40.63).
  • Grant Flower: 10,028 runs in 288 matches between 1992 and 2010 (average 32.03).

Brendan Taylor has now joined this elite list at third place.

Second ODI Against Sri Lanka

In the second ODI match played at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe, after losing the toss and batting first, scored 277 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. The opening pair provided a brilliant start. Brian Bennett and Ben Curran added 55 runs for the first wicket. Bennett was out after scoring 21 runs. Curran batted brilliantly, scoring 79 runs off 95 balls.

After that, Taylor scored 20 runs off 37 balls, and during this period, he crossed the 10,000-run mark in international cricket. When the team's score was 176 for 5 wickets, Sikandar Raza and Clive Madande steadied the innings. Sikandar Raza smashed an unbeaten 59 runs off 55 balls. Clive Madande contributed 36 runs.

Sri Lankan bowlers put up a tough fight, but Zimbabwe reached a score of 277. Dushmantha Chameera was the most successful bowler, picking up 3 wickets. Asitha Fernando scalped 2 wickets. Dilshan Madushanka and Janith Liyanage took one wicket each.
