Ayurveda Gurukulam has emerged as a new academic pathway for students who have completed Class 10 and wish to pursue a career in Ayurveda. The programme offers an integrated route to becoming an Ayurvedic doctor without the requirement of NEET qualification or completion of Class 12 in the science stream. The course spans 7.5 years, is taught through the Sanskrit medium, and awards a recognised Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree upon completion.
The integrated programme has been introduced by the Central Sanskrit University with the objective of enabling students to begin medical education at an earlier age while preserving the classical foundations of Ayurveda. Through this course, students are trained in Ayurvedic scriptures, traditional treatment systems, and selected subjects from modern medical science, with an emphasis on professional competence.
Admission to the Ayurveda Gurukulam programme is open to students after Class 10. The university has stated that there is no mandatory requirement for NEET or completion of Class 12 with science subjects for eligibility. The programme is positioned as an alternative for students who wish to enter the medical field early and pursue Ayurveda as a professional discipline.
The medium of instruction throughout the course is Sanskrit. According to the university, studying Ayurveda in its original language enables students to directly engage with classical texts and foundational scriptures, which form the core of Ayurvedic knowledge. This linguistic approach is central to the structure of the programme.

The total duration of the course is 7.5 years. In the initial phase, students receive instruction in Sanskrit, basic Ayurvedic concepts, and classical theoretical knowledge. In subsequent stages, professional Ayurvedic medical education is provided, including subjects related to modern medicine. The final phase of the programme includes a mandatory internship, designed to provide practical clinical experience.
Upon successful completion of the full course and internship, students are awarded a recognised BAMS degree. This qualification enables graduates to practise as Ayurvedic doctors in accordance with applicable regulations.
Eligibility for admission requires that applicants have passed Class 10 through the Sanskrit medium and possess a b understanding of the language. Details regarding the admission process, entrance examinations, and other regulatory requirements will be specified by the university through an official notification.
After obtaining the BAMS degree, graduates may pursue multiple career pathways. These include establishing a private Ayurvedic clinic, seeking employment in government or private Ayurvedic hospitals, or advancing into research and teaching roles. The programme combines traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern medical understanding, positioning graduates for professional roles within the Ayurvedic healthcare system.
