Heavy rain triggers cloudburst and landslide in Chamba district, resulting in two deaths. 39 roads are closed, disrupting electricity and water supply. The administration is engaged in relief efforts.
Himachal Cloudburst: Continuous heavy rainfall since Sunday night has wreaked havoc in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The situation has worsened after a cloudburst incident in the Jungra area of the Tisa subdivision. According to the District Emergency Operations Center, essential services like transportation, electricity, and water supply have been affected throughout the district due to the rain.
Roads Closed, Electricity and Water Supply Affected
A total of 39 roads in Chamba have been closed due to heavy rain and landslides. Out of these, 18 roads are blocked in the Tisa subdivision area alone, disrupting the movement of people. Additionally, 214 electricity transformers are out of service, causing a complete power outage in several villages. 62 drinking water schemes have also been affected, leaving thousands of people facing a drinking water crisis.
Two People Die as House Collapses
Early Monday morning at 3 AM, a house collapsed in the Dharwala Patwar circle of the Mehla area after being hit by a landslide. In this tragic accident, a man and a woman died. Both bodies have been recovered from the debris and sent to the Medical College Chamba. Following the incident, the local administration has initiated relief operations and is monitoring the situation on the ground.
Heavy Damage to Agriculture and Property
The cloudburst in the Jungra area of the Tisa subdivision has caused heavy damage to the maize crop. A mud house has completely collapsed in the Kunthad Batora area. In the Thana area, two brick houses have been partially damaged. Furthermore, a cowshed and a small bridge have also been washed away by the rain. Information has also been received about a house being partially damaged in the Bhatiyat subdivision, which has been confirmed by the SDM Bhatiyat.
Administration on Alert, Relief Work Ongoing
The district administration has put officials in all subdivisions on alert. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out swiftly. Deputy Commissioner of Chamba, Mukesh Repswal, has appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay in safe places, considering the bad weather. He said that in case of any emergency, people should immediately contact the District Disaster Control Room on the toll-free number 1077 so that timely assistance can be provided.
