China's former minister, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death for accepting bribes totaling $38 million. The court also ordered all his assets to be confiscated and deposited into the national relief fund.

China News: China's former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death in a bribery case. He was accused of accepting bribes totaling 38 million US dollars. The court ordered Tang to be deprived of political positions for life and all his personal assets to be confiscated. In its ruling, the court also stated that the money derived from Tang's illicit assets would be deposited into the national relief fund.

Period and Amount of Crime

Tang Renjian was accused of abusing his power to accept a total of 268 million yuan in bribes from various individuals between 2007 and 2024. He collected this amount by offering assistance in business operations, project contracting, and job adjustments. During this period, he misused his position to provide personal benefits to many people.

Tang's Admission of Guilt in Court

Tang admitted his guilt in court and returned the illicit assets. The court stated that his crimes caused severe harm to the state and the public. Nevertheless, considering Tang's accountability and the return of assets, the court granted him a reprieve and pronounced the final judgment.

When the Case Was Heard

The case was heard on July 25th at the Changchun Intermediate People's Court. During the hearing, the prosecution, the defendant, and his lawyers examined all evidence and presented their arguments. The court carefully listened to the arguments from all parties and pronounced its judgment.

China's Anti-Corruption Campaign

China continues its strict crackdown on corruption. A sweeping anti-corruption campaign was launched in 2012 after President Xi Jinping came to power. Under this campaign, more than one million officials have been punished. This included many senior military officers. Tang Renjian's case is part of this ongoing campaign and demonstrates the severity with which corruption is being dealt with in China.

Confiscation of Tang Renjian's Assets

The court ordered the confiscation of all Tang's personal assets. The proceeds from this confiscation will be deposited into the national relief fund. This sends a clear message that illicit gains and corruption will not be tolerated.
