Congress Divided? Tharoor and Tewari's Silence Fuels Speculation on 'Operation Sindoor' Stance

Congress's internal strife surfaced amidst the debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament. Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari's silence highlighted the disagreement within the party.

Operation Sindoor: While Congress is strategizing to corner the Modi government during the ongoing discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, voices of dissent are emerging from within the party. The silence of senior leader Shashi Tharoor and the social media post by MP Manish Tewari have raised questions about the unity of Congress.

Questions raised on Shashi Tharoor's Silence

When a serious debate on Operation Sindoor began in Parliament, it was expected that some senior and experienced leaders from Congress would bly present the party's stance on the issue. However, when Shashi Tharoor's name was not seen in the list of speakers, it caused a stir in political circles. Shashi Tharoor has served as the Chairman of the External Affairs Committee and is considered to have a b grasp on global diplomacy.

Tharoor has been consistently in discussions even after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor. He recently stated that his first allegiance is to the country. He said, "For me, the party is a means to improve the country. Whatever the party, the aim should be to make India better."

Political turmoil stirred by Manish Tewari's post

On the other hand, Congress MP Manish Tewari from Anandpur Sahib stirred up a commotion by sharing a post. He shared a screenshot of a news report on the social media platform 'X', which explained why he and Shashi Tharoor were not speaking in Parliament. Along with this, he also shared a famous song from the 1970 film 'Purab Aur Paschim':

"Hai preet jahan ki reet sada, main geet wahan ke gaata hun. Bharat ka rehne wala hun, Bharat ki baat sunata hun. Jai Hind."

Questions raised on Congress's strategy

After this development, questions have started arising as to why Congress is unable to maintain its internal unity. Being the largest party in the opposition, Congress was expected to respond to the government unitedly on a serious issue related to national security like Operation Sindoor. However, the silence and indirect displeasure of senior leaders like Tharoor and Tewari have cast a question mark on the party's strategy.

Part of the delegation but silent in Parliament

Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, and Fatehgarh Sahib MP Amar Singh were part of the delegation sent abroad to strengthen India's diplomatic image after Operation Sindoor. All of them were representatives of Congress. But now that there is a debate on the same subject in Parliament, none of these three are included in the list of speakers.

Leaders like Anand Sharma and Salman Khurshid were also in this delegation, but they are not currently Members of Parliament. In such a situation, the question is that when the party sent them abroad to present India's case, why the silence in Parliament?

BJP gets an opportunity, sharp attack on Congress

This internal strife of Congress has also given BJP an opportunity to launch a political attack. BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda took a dig and said that many leaders in Congress can speak well, but their own party does not give them a chance to speak. He said, "My friend Shashi Tharoor, who is an excellent speaker, is not being allowed to speak by his party."
