In Katni, Madhya Pradesh, a Dalit youth named Rajkumar Chaudhary was brutally beaten by the Sarpanch (village head) and his family members for protesting illegal mining. The Sarpanch's son urinated on the youth, and his mother also faced assault.
Katni: An inhumane and shameful incident involving a Dalit youth has come to light in Matwara village, under the Bahoriband police station area of Katni district, Madhya Pradesh. The youth alleges that the Sarpanch and his supporters brutally beat him and subjected him to humiliating acts. The incident is linked to protesting illegal mining, after which the accused also hurled casteist abuses and threatened to kill him.
Uproar in Village Over Illegal Mining Protest
The victim, Rajkumar Chaudhary, stated that he was protesting against illegal mining happening near his field. Due to this, the influential village head (Sarpanch) Ramanuj Pandey, his son Pawan Pandey, nephew Satish Pandey, and other individuals collectively apprehended him. It is alleged that they brutally beat the youth with iron rods and other weapons.
The gravity of the matter is that the youth's mother, who came to intervene, was also caught, dragged, and assaulted. During this, the Sarpanch's son, Pawan Pandey, committed a shameful act by urinating on the youth, which caused an uproar throughout the village.
Casteist Abuses and Threats
The victim alleged that the attackers hurled casteist abuses and threatened to kill him if he returned to the village. He stated that due to the severe beating, he and his mother had to be admitted and treated at the district hospital for three days. Following the incident, Rajkumar Chaudhary is now apprehensive about returning to the village due to fear.
Police Register Case
ASP Santosh Dehria informed that Rajkumar Chaudhary's complaint has been registered, and a thorough investigation of the entire matter is underway. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. He stated that this incident raises serious questions about social equality and law and order.
He also stated that complete information has been provided to the concerned police station, and appropriate legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.
