Bollywood's top actress, Deepika Padukone, recently dropped out of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film 'Spirit,' and the reason behind this decision has become a major topic of discussion in the industry.
Siddharth P Malhotra On 8 Hours Shift: A major debate has erupted in Bollywood regarding shooting schedules and working hours. This started when news surfaced about Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film 'Spirit.' It was claimed that Deepika demanded an 8-hour shift, which the film's team did not accept. Subsequently, Deepika's name was removed from the film, sparking a debate across social media and the industry.
Renowned film director Siddharth P. Malhotra has now responded to this controversy, openly supporting Deepika and taking her side. He clearly stated that demanding an 8-hour shift is neither new nor unusual. He further substantiated this by citing examples of big names like Rani Mukherjee and Kajol.
8-Hour Shifts in 'Hichki'
In an interview, Siddharth Malhotra mentioned that he completed the shooting of his acclaimed film 'Hichki' (2018) entirely within 8-hour shifts. He said, "We completed the entire film in 28 eight-hour shifts. This included Rani Mukherjee, the children, and the technical crew. Everyone planned their work according to that schedule, and the film was completed on time." Siddharth also clarified that delivering quality work within a limited time is not impossible; it just requires teamwork and professionalism.
Kajol and Rani Also Had Similar Stipulations
He further stated in the interview that the same condition was imposed when he worked with Kajol in 2010. Kajol clearly stated that she would only shoot in 8-hour shifts – whether it was from 10 am to 6 pm or from 7 am to 2 pm. Rani Mukherjee also followed the same formula. Therefore, if Deepika desires the same, there is nothing new about it.
Siddharth also gave a b reply to those criticizing Deepika. He said that there is nothing wrong if a female artist wants time for her family or wants to maintain a balance. This is not just about Deepika; people are just using her name for publicity. If an artist says they will work for 8 hours, and you need that actor, you can complete the quality work within that timeframe.
'Spirit' Controversy: Industry's Work Culture in Discussion Again
Following Deepika's exit from the film 'Spirit,' questions were raised on social media about the industry's unrealistic work culture. Some actors supported Deepika, while others sided with the filmmakers. However, the support of directors like Siddharth P. Malhotra indicates that a gradual wave of change is underway in the industry's work practices – where artists are also trying to balance their professional and personal lives.
