Delhi Government to Deliver Court Summons and Warrants via WhatsApp and Email

Delhi Government Implements New Rule for E-Delivery of Court Summons and Warrants. Notices will now be sent via WhatsApp and Email, saving time and resources.

Delhi Court: The Delhi government has decided to completely digitize the delivery process of court summons and arrest warrants. Court summons and warrants will now be sent via WhatsApp and email. The aim of this decision is to save time and make the legal process faster and easier.

Lieutenant Governor Approves

The new rule issued by the Delhi government has been approved by Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. Under this, summons and warrants issued by the courts will now be delivered through digital platforms. After this change, the people of Delhi will now be able to receive court-related notices on their mobile phones.

Law Implemented Under BNSS Rule 2025

The Delhi government has implemented this new rule under the Delhi BNSS (Service of Summons and Warrants) Rule, 2025. After its implementation, courts will be able to send summons and warrants only through WhatsApp and email. Earlier, this process was completely manual, in which a hard copy of the summons was delivered to the address of the concerned person.

Summons Delivery Will Be Completed in Minutes

The government says that this decision will not only save time, but the delivery of summons will be possible in minutes. The notices and warrants issued by the court will now have the digital seal and signature of the judge, so there will be no question about their validity.

Police Will Also Get Relief

The e-delivery of summons and warrants by the courts will provide great relief to the police. Until now, the police had to make a paper delivery of every notice, which was a waste of time and resources. Now the police will only have to send notices via email or WhatsApp, which will speed up the investigation process as well.

Electronic Summons Distribution Centers Will Be Established

According to the notification of the Delhi government, electronic summons distribution centers will be set up in all police stations. The job of these centers will be to keep a record of e-delivery of summons and warrants. If for some reason the online delivery fails, the court can also order to send a hard copy.

Digital Signature and Security Measures

All summons and warrants sent from the court will have the judge's digital signature and seal. This will maintain their authenticity and no person will be able to question the validity of this process. Apart from this, the delivery report of the notice sent from email and WhatsApp will also be in the record.

Video Conferencing Facility Already Available

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had allowed police officers to testify in court through video conferencing while sitting in the police station. The aim of this decision was to save time and resources. However, some lawyers and the Aam Aadmi Party had opposed this decision. They said that this could affect the traditional working of the court.
