National Award-winning actress Divya Dutta, who has delivered memorable performances in several films like Train to Pakistan, Special 26, Delhi 6, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag during her three-decade-long career in Bollywood, has now stepped into Telugu cinema for the first time.
Entertainment: Veteran Bollywood actress and National Award winner Divya Dutta is known for playing excellent characters in her three-decade-long career. Divya, who has proven her acting prowess in films like 'Train to Pakistan', 'Special 26', 'Delhi 6' and 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', is now going to step into Telugu cinema for the first time. In her new Telugu web series 'Mayasabha', she is playing the role of a political leader, which is going to be released soon.
In a recent special interview, Divya Dutta not only spoke about her career and her move towards Telugu cinema but also openly expressed her views on the 'star system' of the film industry.
The Journey of Stepping into Telugu Cinema
Divya says, "I had been wanting to do some work in Telugu for a long time. In the early days of my career, I received many offers, but for some reason, I couldn't do them. I always had this desire to do a Telugu film. When I got the offer for 'Mayasabha', I liked the story, character, and director so much that I immediately said yes. If I am doing something new after so many years, it should be special."
She considers the current era of Pan India cinema to be positive. When we were young, superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth used to appear together in films. Now that era has returned, where artists from different languages are working in each other's industries. This is strengthening Indian cinema globally.
No Interest in Politics, But a Desire for Change
Divya clearly stated that she has no interest in politics, but if she ever got the power, she would change the 'star system' of the film industry.
According to her, "Casting should be done according to the character, whether it is a star, a newcomer, or an actor of any level. It should not happen that the name of the star is decided first and then the story is made according to it. Films should be story and character-driven, not star-driven."
Giving the example of series like 'Scam' and 'Panchayat' that came on the OTT platform, she said, "In these, the artists appear to us only as characters, this is their biggest success."
Satisfaction with her Career
Divya says, "I consider myself a star actor. The love and respect that I get from the audience is my greatest achievement. I always try to do the best role in a film or show, whether it is small or big. If I feel that this role will reach the hearts of the audience, then I definitely do it."
She calls herself a 'hungry actor', "I always want the best role. If the character is b, then I am ready for it, no matter how much screen time there is." Divya Dutta believes that there has been a big change in the film industry in the last few years, especially for women artists and crew.
"Now there are women in every department—whether it is camera, direction, costume, or makeup. It was not like this before. This change came slowly, but it is very important. Now women's stories are also being told on screen. They are not only being objectified, but their characters have depth and layers. This change is giving every section of artists their due."
In 'Mayasabha', Divya's character is of a b and influential leader. This series promises a new experience not only for her but also for the audience. This politics-themed web series has an interesting combination of power, politics, and personal ambitions.
