Padmashree Dr. Surendra Dubey, a renowned humorist and satirist from Chhattisgarh, passed away on Friday in Raipur due to cardiac arrest. He was immediately taken to the hospital after a sudden deterioration in his health, where he breathed his last during treatment, between approximately 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM. The news of his demise has caused a profound wave of grief in the literary and cultural world.
Dr. Dubey was known across the country for his sharp satirical style, stage presence, and easy humor. He brought recognition to the Chhattisgarhi language and humorous poetry on national and international platforms.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described Dr. Dubey's death as an irreparable loss to Chhattisgarhi literature. He wrote on social media, "The passing away of Dr. Dubey, who gave smiles to society throughout his life, is a deep shock. His creativity, liveliness, and dedication will always remain a source of inspiration."
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also expressed deep grief, stating, "Surendra ji kept spreading smiles throughout his life, but today he has left our eyes moist. His poems will always live in our hearts. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to the family."
Deep Knowledge of Ayurveda Along with Literature
Dr. Surendra Dubey was born on January 8, 1953, in Bemetara, Chhattisgarh. He was an Ayurvedic practitioner by profession, but his identity was established as a writer who brought humor and satire to the masses.
The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award in 2010. He entertained the countrymen, made them think, and brought pride to the soil of Chhattisgarh through his performances on many platforms, poetry conferences, and television programs.
His death is being seen as a major loss to the Hindi poetry stage. Deep grief prevails among the literary fraternity as well as among general readers and listeners.
