Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has purchased the country's first Tesla Model Y car. He gifted this electric car to his grandson with a message of environmental protection. Sarnaik took delivery of the vehicle from the Tesla Experience Centre in Mumbai and shared its pictures on social media.
Pratap Sarnaik Buys Tesla Model Y: Maharashtra's Transport Minister and senior Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader, Pratap Sarnaik, took delivery of the country's first Tesla Model Y car on Friday from the Tesla Experience Centre located in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. He stated that as the Transport Minister, it is essential to fulfill his responsibility towards the environment, which is why he purchased this vehicle. Notably, Sarnaik gifted this car to his grandson, thereby conveying a message of environmental conservation.
Transport Minister Says – Purchased Tesla While Fulfilling Responsibility
Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik recently purchased a Tesla car. He mentioned that he gifted this vehicle to his grandson, but its primary objective is to inspire people to adopt electric vehicles. Sarnaik stated that the government is committed to transitioning the state entirely to EVs within the next 10 years, and this purchase is a message in that direction.
The minister added that buying a car is not a significant feat; rather, it is a part of thinking about and taking responsibility for saving the environment. According to him, when the state's Transport Minister adopts an EV, it sends a b message to the general public as well.
Government's Stance on EV Infrastructure
Sarnaik asserted that both the central and state governments are fully positive regarding electric vehicles. He mentioned that concessions have been provided for EV vehicles at toll plazas like the Atal Setu to offer further convenience to people.
He also stated that the environment is continuously being harmed in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai. At such a time, the proliferation of electric vehicles is a relief and a sustainable alternative for the city.
5150 Electric Buses Purchased, Benefiting the Public
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed that 5150 electric buses have been procured for the state. Out of these, 480 buses are already operating in public transport, and people are benefiting from them.
Sarnaik gave an example, stating that during the recent heavy rains in Mumbai, when many vehicles broke down, electric buses and vehicles continued to operate smoothly. Because of this, people are now beginning to understand the importance and benefits of EVs.
Considers Himself Fortunate
Sarnaik expressed that he considers himself fortunate that the first delivery of a Tesla in Maharashtra was to the Transport Minister. He described it as a special moment in his life and stated that it is not just a car but a symbol of a new direction for the state.
The minister reiterated that the infrastructure for EVs will be rapidly developed in the coming times, ensuring that citizens from villages to big cities can easily access the convenience of electric vehicles.
