New York: India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from around the world during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). These meetings involved in-depth discussions on many important topics, including bilateral relations, regional developments, and global issues. Jaishankar shared information about his activities and meetings through social media.
Meeting with Foreign Ministers of Netherlands and Denmark
Jaishankar met with the Netherlands' Foreign Minister David van Weel, where a detailed discussion took place on Europe's strategic situation and India's perspective. During this, both sides shared views on issues of security and political stability in Europe.
Following this, Jaishankar also met with Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. In this meeting, discussions were held on bilateral relations between the Council of the European Union and India, as well as the Ukraine conflict and regional stability.
Concurrently, a meeting with Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation. Both countries emphasized strengthening cooperation in economic, security, and cultural sectors.
Discussions with Foreign Ministers of Mauritius and Maldives
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met with Mauritius' Foreign Minister Ritesh Ramful. During this, they discussed follow-up actions after India's recent state visit and shared ideas on strengthening bilateral relations further.
In a meeting with Maldives' Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, Jaishankar reiterated India's support and cooperation. He discussed India's role in the development and regional stability of Maldives.
Meetings with African and Caribbean Nations
Jaishankar held separate bilateral meetings with Lesotho's Foreign Minister Lejone Mpotjoana, Suriname's Melvin Bouva, Somalia's Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali, Saint Lucia's Alva Baptiste, and Jamaica's Kamina J Smith. In these meetings, discussions focused on trade, security, and cultural cooperation between the respective countries.
Jaishankar congratulated Smith on her reappointment as Jamaica's Foreign Minister and expressed hope towards strengthening the India-Jamaica partnership.
Discussions with Global South and Multinational Corporations
Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan during a high-level meeting of Global South countries. In this meeting, they shared perspectives on global challenges and opportunities for cooperation.
The External Affairs Minister also met with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of Dubai-based multinational logistics company DP World. During this, they discussed the impact of current developments on the international economy and supply chains.
Informal Meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers
Jaishankar also participated in an informal meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers. This meeting was hosted by the EU's High Representative Kaja Kallas. During the meeting, there was an open discussion on issues such as multilateralism, the India-EU partnership, the Ukraine crisis, Gaza, energy, and trade.
Jaishankar described this meeting as an important opportunity to promote global cooperation and strategic understanding. He stated that such meetings foster a free exchange of ideas and build trust among countries.
