East Central Railway has initiated preparations to lease the luggage van of the Barauni-Ernakulam Express as part of its efforts to increase revenue from freight and parcel transportation. The initiative is expected to generate approximately Rs 22.8 lakh in revenue for the railway.
The move is also expected to provide traders and businesses with an additional transportation option for moving goods between Bihar and southern India.
The Barauni-Ernakulam Express is an important train connecting Bihar with southern India. Passengers from Bihar and neighbouring regions use the service to travel to Kerala and other cities in southern India.
The train's luggage van can be used to transport goods and commercial parcels. East Central Railway is now planning to lease this facility to generate additional revenue through the commercial utilisation of available space.
The railway will follow a designated leasing process to offer the luggage van for a specified period. Tenders will be invited from interested traders and companies.
The applicant selected under the prescribed rules and conditions will receive the right to use the luggage van. In return, the railway will receive the agreed lease amount.
The initiative is expected to benefit both small and large traders involved in transporting goods from Bihar to southern India. The leased luggage van will provide businesses with an additional rail transportation option for moving commercial consignments over long distances.
Rail transportation may offer greater convenience than road transportation in several cases, potentially helping businesses save time and improve their goods transportation arrangements.
Leasing the luggage van of the Barauni-Ernakulam Express forms part of the railway's broader commercial strategy. Alongside passenger fares, the railway is focusing on increasing revenue from parcel and freight transportation.
The initiative is aimed at generating revenue through the commercial utilisation of additional space available on trains. It is also expected to help the railway make better use of its available capacity and attract new customers for goods transportation.
Interested traders and companies will now be looking at the upcoming tender process and the conditions governing the lease.
