ED Raids Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel's Residence in Liquor Scam Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid on Friday morning at the Bhilai residence of Bhupesh Baghel, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Congress leader. This action was taken in connection with the alleged liquor scam and money laundering case involving his son, Chaitanya Baghel. Bhupesh Baghel himself posted on social media, writing, "ED has arrived. Today is the last day of the Legislative Assembly session, and I had to raise the issue of cutting trees in Tamnar, but the 'sahab' sent the ED to my Bhilai residence."

The ED has also confirmed the action, stating that the team is conducting raids on Chaitanya Baghel's premises in connection with the money laundering investigation related to the Raipur liquor scam.

Raids Were Also Conducted in March

The Enforcement Directorate stated that they have received some new information in this case, based on which the raids were conducted. This action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Earlier, in March 2025, the ED had also raided Chaitanya Baghel in connection with the same case.

The ED claims that Chaitanya is a beneficiary of the proceeds of crime in this alleged liquor scam. According to the agency, this scam has caused heavy financial losses to the Chhattisgarh government, and an organized liquor syndicate has illegally earned approximately ₹2,100 crore.

Agitation Increased by Action During Legislative Assembly Session

This ED raid has occurred at a time when the Legislative Assembly session is underway in Chhattisgarh. This has further intensified the stir in political circles. The investigating agency says that the people against whom this action is being taken have been part of an organized liquor scam and have earned huge profits illegally.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and no final conclusion has been reached yet. Meanwhile, Bhupesh Baghel and his son, Chaitanya Baghel, have not yet issued any official statement on this action.
