On Tuesday night, a dispute in the Banakatwa ‘Kali Mandir’ area of Gorakhnath escalated into violence. A couple and their child became victims of the altercation while attempting to fix a public street light. It is alleged that neighbors assaulted the man and did not spare his wife or child, who intervened to protect him. The injured man is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. The police have registered a case against six named individuals and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Sequence of Events
The incident occurred around 11 PM. Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Banakatwa, was fixing a broken public street light on the road. During this time, neighbors from the locality — Sanjay Pandey, Jang Bahadur Pandey, Monu Upadhyay, Shaila Pandey, Lakshmi Upadhyay, and Preeti Upadhyay — arrived at the scene. It is alleged that they verbally abused Abhishek and began to assault him.
Following this commotion, Abhishek's wife, Kriti Sharma, came out carrying their child. It is alleged that the accused also assaulted her and kicked the child with their foot, causing the child to hit a wall and sustain injuries. The injured Abhishek was rushed to Anand Lok Hospital, where his condition is reported to be serious. The child's injuries were not described as critical, but the child was also taken to the hospital.
Police Action
Kriti Sharma filed a written complaint (Tehrir) at the Gorakhnath police station. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the six named accused. The crime scene has been inspected, and the investigation process is ongoing.
