In Amritsar, Punjab, three out of four passengers traveling on the roof of a bus died after falling due to colliding with an overhead concrete beam. One passenger is seriously injured. Two minors were also involved in the accident.
Amritsar: A tragic road accident occurred late Monday night in Amritsar district, Punjab, in which three out of four passengers traveling on the roof of a bus died, and one was seriously injured. The accident happened near Alpha One Mall in the BRTS lane due to the bus colliding with a BRTS Tower (lenter) located there.
Dr. Sheetal Kumar, ACP Amritsar East, stated that the bus was carrying devotees from Sri Muktsar Sahib to Baba Budda Sahib. While returning after darshan (visiting the shrine), four out of 8-10 passengers sitting on the bus roof collided with the lenter and fell. The deceased have been identified as Gursimran Singh, Sikander Singh, and Satinder Singh, while the injured person is Khushwinder Singh.
Bus Accident Near Alpha Mall
Investigating Officer A.K. Sohi informed that the incident occurred near the entry gate of Alpha Mall. Several passengers were present in the bus at the time of the accident, but most had already left the scene. Apart from the four passengers on the bus roof, no other person sustained serious injuries.
Sohi stated, “A group of devotees had come from Baba Budh Temple for prayers and was returning. We are questioning the children involved in the accident and other passengers. Their information will help us ascertain the full circumstances of the incident.”
Two Minors Die in Bus Accident
Relief and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene. Two minors were among the deceased. This accident serves as a serious warning for Amritsar, as people often travel on bus roofs, posing a risk of severe accidents.
The injured Khushwinder Singh was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. Doctors have described his condition as serious and advised utmost caution. The families of the deceased have been informed about the incident, and government assistance will be provided to them for relief efforts.
Police Initiate Investigation
Police have immediately launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the accident site is being reviewed to ascertain the actual cause of the accident. Additionally, the bus driver and other passengers are also being questioned.
Police and administration stated that strict safety regulations would be implemented to prevent such accidents in the future. A special campaign will be launched to prohibit travel on bus roofs and ensure compliance with traffic rules.
