Federal Appeals Court Declares Most Trump-Era Tariffs Illegal

A federal appeals court in the United States declared most tariffs imposed by the Trump administration as illegal on Friday. This court ruling has had a significant impact on American economic policy and international trade strategy.

Washington: A federal appeals court in the United States ruled on Friday that most tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are not in compliance with the law and declared them illegal. However, the court allowed these tariffs to remain in effect until October 14 to give the Trump administration an opportunity to file an appeal with the US Supreme Court. This decision is considered a significant blow to the Trump administration's international economic strategy.

Trump's Response: 'Tariffs Still in Effect'

The federal appeals court clarified that the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are not in accordance with US laws. This decision comes at a time when legal battles regarding the independence of the Federal Reserve and economic policies are also preparing to go to the Supreme Court. This has dealt a major blow to Trump's entire economic strategy and created an unprecedented legal confrontation situation in America.

Following the court's decision, US President Donald Trump issued a statement on platforms like "Truth Social," stating that the tariffs will remain fully in effect. He described the appeals court's ruling as "highly partisan" and said that it would be devastating for America if the tariffs were removed.

Trump wrote that, in the end, the United States of America will be victorious. If these tariffs are removed, it will weaken the country's economic position, and we must maintain our strength.

Tariffs on India: Increase up to 50%

The Trump administration had previously announced tariffs on India, first at 25 percent and then increased to 50 percent. These tariffs came into effect on August 7, and subsequently, similar tariffs were imposed on approximately 70 other countries. Notably, the US President doubled the tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent due to India's purchase of crude oil from Russia.

The US investment firm Jefferies bly criticized this move. The company stated that the tariffs imposed on India are a result of Trump's personal resentment and political objectives, which are detrimental to America's national interests. Jefferies said this move is a clear example of Trump's ideological weakness and policy imbalance.
