Patna: The Bihar government has announced the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme (CM Mahila Rozgar Yojana). Under this scheme, one woman from each family in the state will be provided financial assistance to start her own business or venture. The objective of the scheme is to empower women economically and make them self-reliant. The first installment of this scheme will be disbursed in September 2025, with each woman receiving Rs 10,000.
It is noteworthy that the benefits of the scheme will not be limited to the initial startup phase. Following a six-month evaluation, women who demonstrate better performance under the scheme will receive additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh.
Objective and Significance of the Scheme
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has described this scheme as a significant step towards women's empowerment and economic development. He stated that through this scheme, women will not only receive financial aid but also essential guidance and support to launch their enterprises. The government has indicated that the primary goal of this scheme is to enable women to increase their family's income through their skills and hard work, thereby reducing their compulsion to seek employment elsewhere.
The implementation of the scheme will be overseen by the Rural Development Department, with support from the Urban Development and Housing Department as needed. This initiative is expected to strengthen the position of women and create better employment opportunities within the state.
First Installment to be Disbursed in September
Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena informed that the application process for the scheme will commence shortly. Interested women can apply through their nearest government office or via online channels. As per the scheme, the first installment of Rs 10,000 will be transferred to the bank accounts of the women in the month of September.
Meena further elaborated that after a six-month evaluation, women who perform well will be eligible for additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh. This evaluation will consider the success of the woman's project, her sales, and her business operational capabilities.
Haats and Markets to be Developed
A significant component of the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme is the development of haats (local markets). The government will establish dedicated haats in villages and cities across the state for the sale of women's products. In these haats, women will be able to sell their products directly to customers, thereby earning higher profits.
The aim of this initiative is to provide women with a stable market for their products and ensure they receive fair value for their labor. The government believes this will increase women's income and contribute to their self-reliance.
New Employment Opportunities from the Scheme
The Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme is also a crucial step towards job creation in the state. Under this scheme, women will have access to employment opportunities based on their skills and expertise. The government's objective is to provide these benefits to women, thereby alleviating their need to seek employment outside their locality.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also stated that this scheme will improve the economic condition of women, enabling them to meet their family's needs. The implementation of the scheme will ensure the availability of stable and long-term employment opportunities for women in Bihar.
Chief Minister Himself Tweeted Information about the Scheme
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself shared information about the scheme on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote that his government has been continuously working for women's empowerment since November 2005. Now, women will not only contribute to Bihar's progress but also strengthen their families' financial situation.
He further stated that continuing with this mission, the government has approved the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme for women's employment. This scheme is an unprecedented step to provide financial assistance to one woman from each family in the state for an enterprise of her choice.
Process of Scheme Implementation
The Chief Minister informed that the entire management of this scheme will be handled by the Rural Development Department. The eligibility and selection process for women applying under the scheme will be ensured. The Urban Development and Housing Department will also provide support for this.
The government maintains that the implementation of the scheme will further strengthen the position of women. Additionally, it will create better employment opportunities within the state, eliminating the need for people to migrate for work.
Long-Term Benefits for Women
The objective of the Chief Minister's Women Employment Scheme is not limited to initial financial assistance. Women who demonstrate better performance will receive additional financial support and guidance under the scheme. This will enable women to further develop their businesses or ventures.
Confluence of Employment and Women's Empowerment
The Chief Minister stated that through the scheme, women will get employment opportunities and will be economically empowered. This step will prove significant for both women's empowerment and economic development in the state.
The government believes that this scheme will not only enable women to earn income for their families but also create sustainable employment opportunities in Bihar. This will lead to an improvement in the state's social and economic conditions, and women will become financially independent through their skills.
