Gold and Silver Prices Surge in India as Silver Jumps Nearly ₹20,000 Per Kg in a Week

Gold and silver prices recorded a sharp rise in Indian bullion markets amid global economic uncertainty and increased safe-haven demand. Silver prices crossed ₹2.61 lakh per kilogram, while gold prices reached record levels in the Delhi bullion market.

Gold and silver prices recorded a sharp increase in bullion markets across India this week, with both investors and retail buyers witnessing a significant surge in precious metal rates. Silver registered one of its steepest weekly gains in recent years, with prices rising by nearly ₹20,000 per kilogram within a week.

The Indian bullion market saw substantial gains in gold and silver prices amid global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and rising demand for safe-haven assets. Market experts said increased volatility in international markets and weakness in the US dollar provided support to precious metals, pushing domestic prices close to record levels.

Silver prices witnessed the sharpest rise during the week. Silver, which was trading around ₹2.44 lakh per kilogram a few days ago, has climbed above ₹2.61 lakh per kilogram. Market analysts said this marked one of the largest weekly jumps in silver prices in recent years. Since the beginning of 2026, silver prices have increased by around ₹25,000 per kilogram.

Rising industrial demand globally, increasing usage of silver in electric vehicles and the solar sector, and higher investor interest in safe assets supported the price rally.

Gold prices also continued their upward trend alongside silver. In the Delhi bullion market, gold prices reached record highs. According to market data, gold prices crossed ₹1.53 lakh per 10 grams. Since the beginning of 2026, gold prices have increased by more than ₹18,000. Gold has long been considered a preferred safe investment option for investors, with demand typically increasing during periods of global uncertainty.

According to the latest rates on May 9, 2026, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,66,011 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold stood at ₹1,52,940 per 10 grams. Silver prices were recorded at ₹2,61,300 per kilogram in the Indian market. Prices may vary marginally across cities and jewellers.
