Six people, including a three-year-old child, were killed and seven injured after a truck collided with a Bolero carrying labourers near Nagra village on the Gondia-Balaghat State Highway in Maharashtra. Police have registered an FIR against the truck driver.

Six people, including a three-year-old child, were killed and seven others injured in a road accident in Maharashtra’s Gondia district late Monday night. A speeding truck collided head-on with a Bolero carrying labourers near Nagra village on the Gondia-Balaghat State Highway, leaving the vehicle badly damaged and trapping several people inside.

According to police, the labourers were from different villages in the Kirnapur and Lanji tehsils of Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district. They were travelling with family members to Hyderabad in Telangana for work.

The labourers were travelling in Bolero vehicle number MP-15 T 3495. At around 11:30 pm on Monday, the vehicle reached Nagra, about five kilometres from Gondia city. At the same time, truck number MH-35 AJ-2547, travelling from Balaghat towards Gondia, collided with the Bolero.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the Bolero and trapped several people inside. Local residents and passers-by who heard the collision informed the police and emergency services. A team of Gondia Rural Police reached the spot and began rescue operations.

Because of the extent of the damage, rescuers had difficulty removing those trapped inside. Police and rescue personnel used gas cutters to cut open the vehicle and remove the bodies and injured passengers.

The injured and bodies were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared six people dead. Seven people were injured and are undergoing treatment. One of the deceased was a three-year-old child.

Gondia Rural Police registered a case based on the statement of injured Rajendra Shivcharan Pandhare, a resident of Piplagaon Khurd in the Kirnapur area of Balaghat district.

Police registered an FIR against truck driver Mohsin Khan, 32, a resident of Gondia. The case was registered under Crime No. 527/2026 under Sections 281, 106(1), 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

According to police, preliminary information indicates that the truck may have been driven at high speed and negligently. The exact cause and sequence of the accident will be established after the investigation. Police are also examining the speed of both vehicles, road conditions and other circumstances surrounding the collision.

Further investigation is being conducted by Woman Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Varsha Naitam under the guidance of Police Inspector Vaibhav Pawar.

Police inspected the accident site and collected evidence related to the collision. Investigators are examining the condition of both vehicles, road conditions and information provided by eyewitnesses to establish the sequence of events.
