₹126 Crore Drainage Project Approved for Gorakhpur to Combat Waterlogging

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a ₹126 crore drainage project in Gorakhpur to provide permanent relief from monsoon waterlogging, benefiting over 40,000 residents.

Gorakhpur - To provide permanent relief from the problem of waterlogging during the monsoon season, the state government has approved a drainage project worth ₹126 crore. Under this scheme, a 12.35-kilometer-long drain will be constructed from Gulriha Police Station to Chiluatal, ensuring rapid and smooth drainage of rainwater.

According to municipal corporation officials, the proposed drain will pass through Kanchannpur Chowraha, Gulriha Police Station, Puraina, Banjerha Pulia, Mirzapur Chowraha, and finally reach Chiluatal. This project will resolve the problem of water accumulation in many areas of the city and directly benefit over 40,000 people.

The project's catchment area is approximately 2221.83 hectares. It includes areas such as Jungle Pakri, Chargawan, Gorakhnath Fertilizer Factory Colony, and Jhungia, where waterlogging causes significant problems for residents every year during the rainy season.

Divisional Commissioner Anil Dhingra has instructed the concerned departments to issue the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) promptly, so that there is no delay in the construction work. The municipal corporation states that work on the project will begin as soon as all formalities are completed.

Residents are hopeful that the completion of this drainage project will provide relief from waterlogging and prevent disruption to daily life during the monsoon season.
