Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation has made a significant leap in the field of sanitation, creating a distinct identity for itself across the country. In the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, Gorakhpur has secured the third position nationwide in the "Safai Mitra Surakshit Shahar" (Safai Mitra Secure City) category. This achievement is a matter of pride not only for the state but also at the national level. To mark this occasion, a grand honor ceremony is being organized at the Municipal Corporation premises on Wednesday, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will felicitate the sanitation workers and councilors.
Along with the Chief Minister's arrival, the city residents will also receive the gift of 177 development projects worth ₹252.50 crore. This includes the inauguration of a modern system like the Urban Flood Early Warning System, which will prove helpful in tackling the problem of urban waterlogging.
Gorakhpur's Big Leap in Cleanliness
This time, Gorakhpur has achieved the fourth national rank and the first position at the state level in the category of cities with a population of 3 to 10 lakhs. Last year, Gorakhpur's national ranking was 24th and seventh in the state, which has now improved to the top position. Additionally, Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation has also been placed in the Garbage Free City's Five Star Certification, whereas last year it was placed in the Three Star Category.
The credit for this success goes to the Municipal Corporation team, sanitation workers, and the cooperation of the general public. Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation prioritized the safety and convenience of sanitation workers along with improving the cleanliness system, which has earned it this special recognition.
Inauguration of Urban Flood Early Warning System
During the program, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate a significant project for the city, the Urban Flood Early Warning System. Under this system, prepared at a cost of approximately ₹28.92 crore, all the pumping stations in Gorakhpur have been fully automated. Additionally, 110 automatic water level recorders have been installed on primary and secondary drains.
This system automatically sends alerts to the concerned officials as soon as the water level reaches 80 percent, enabling timely action. Furthermore, information related to fuel shortage and pump maintenance is also communicated to the officials in a timely manner. This will help in controlling the waterlogging situation.
