Gujarat High Court Evacuated Following Bomb Threat

Gujarat High Court Receives Bomb Threat via Email; Court Premises Evacuated, Investigation Underway. The threat cited the arrest of Savukku Shankar and the execution of Kasab as reasons.

Gujarat: A bomb threat against the Gujarat High Court, delivered via email, caused widespread panic. Police and security agencies immediately responded, suspending court proceedings for the afternoon to prevent any untoward incident.

Threatening Email Initiates the Incident

On Monday morning, a threatening email was received at the official email address of the Gujarat High Court. The email contained a threat to bomb the High Court. The email linked the threat to two primary reasons—the arrest of Savukku Shankar and the execution of Ajmal Kasab, the 26/11 terrorist. Upon receiving the email, the High Court administration immediately informed the police. Security agencies then swung into action, launching a thorough investigation of the High Court premises.

High Court Premises Evacuated

Taking the threat seriously, proceedings at the Gujarat High Court were suspended after 1:30 PM. No one was allowed entry into the court premises.

Bomb disposal and dog squads meticulously searched the entire premises. Court officials evacuated all staff, lawyers, and visitors. The entire area was transformed into a heavily secured police zone.

Reasons Cited Behind the Threat

The sender of the email cited two reasons for the threat. First, the alleged illegal arrest of Savukku Shankar, a former DGP of Tamil Nadu, and second, disapproval of the execution of Ajmal Kasab, convicted in the 26/11 attacks. The email also claimed that the court's judgments were biased, justifying the bombing threat.

Palaniwami's Residence Also Mentioned as a Potential Target

The email threatened not only the High Court but also the Chennai residence of AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniwami on Greenways Road. This suggests the threatener intended to target multiple individuals and institutions.

Police File a Case

Police have registered a case under relevant sections, taking the threat seriously. The cybercrime cell has also been involved in the investigation to identify the sender of the email. Preliminary information suggests the email originated from an unknown server, raising the possibility of an disgruntled group or individual being behind the threat.
