Gurugram Couple Arrested for Crores of Rupees OLX Car Fraud

Gurugram police have arrested a husband and wife for allegedly defrauding people of crores of rupees by posting fake advertisements for luxury cars on OLX. The accused have been identified as Jagmeet Singh and his wife Amrita Kaur, who were living in a rented flat in Palam Hills Society, Sector 77. They were living a lavish lifestyle, paying a rent of around ₹50,000 per month.

According to the police, the accused couple has defrauded people of approximately ₹2 crore by posting fake advertisements for expensive cars on online platforms like OLX. Their arrest came after a complaint was lodged on April 1, in which a person alleged that he was charged ₹50,000 as advance for a Fortuner car, but he was neither shown the car nor was his money returned.

Used to Commit Fraud by Removing Ads on OLX

The investigation revealed that the accused used to identify genuine car advertisements already present on OLX and then contact the real owners, getting them to remove the advertisements by paying a small amount. After this, they would re-upload the same cars on OLX, claiming them as their own, and flee with the advance payment from the buyers.

Police say that Amrita Kaur was the mastermind behind the entire fraud and she used to prepare and upload the fake advertisements on OLX, while Jagmeet used to execute the deals. In the initial interrogation, the accused have confessed to 15 cases of fraud.

Has Been to Jail Before

Gurugram's ACP (Cyber) Priyanshu Diwan said that Jagmeet Singh has been arrested in fraud cases before as well. He has served 30 days in Bhondsi Jail and 45 days in Jalandhar Jail. Six other cases of fraud are already registered against him.

The accused couple used to buy expensive jewelry with the money obtained from the fraud and sell them in Delhi to fulfill their desires. Currently, the police are deeply investigating the entire racket and trying to find out who else is involved in this fraud.
