Gwalior administration has tightened security after the Dr. Ambedkar controversy. 4,000 police personnel have been deployed and 70 checking points have been established. Strict surveillance is being maintained on external anti-social elements, and both parties have agreed not to hold protests.
New Delhi: Following a controversial statement on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Scheduled Caste organizations had announced a protest. In response, a reaction was also observed from the upper-caste community. Considering this tense situation, the Gwalior administration has tightened security in the city. 4,000 police personnel have been deployed on the city's streets, and 70 checking points have been established. The administration has obtained consent from both parties not to hold demonstrations, but every possible preparation has been made to deal with any untoward incident.
Enhanced Surveillance and Checking Points
The IG, DIG, and SSP are continuously monitoring all major areas of the city. The police force is fully prepared and ready to take immediate action in the event of any untoward incident. Blockades have been set up on the borders of six districts to prevent external anti-social elements from entering the city. Vehicles and individuals are being inspected at all checking points. Special vigilance is being maintained at markets, railway stations, and bus stands.
Strict Vigilance on Travelers
Special attention is being paid to external vehicles and passenger transport entering the city. Travelers arriving from outside are being interrogated at railway stations and bus stands. The police are ensuring that no individual enters Gwalior with the aim of instigating unrest. Some active leaders from both sides who post provocative content, messages, and videos on social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp have been placed under surveillance.
Administration's Proactive Strategy
The administration has clarified that even though both parties have agreed not to protest, no laxity will be tolerated under any circumstances. Police personnel are ready with riot gear. Surveillance is being maintained from 70 checking points across all major roads and intersections of the city. The administration is fully alert to prevent any anti-social element from attempting to disrupt the atmosphere in the city.
Background of the Controversy
The issue stems from a controversial statement made by advocate Anil Mishra regarding Dr. Ambedkar. In protest, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes organizations had announced demonstrations. Meanwhile, in support of Mishra, the upper-caste community and some advocates also staged protests and burned effigies of officials. On October 15, 2025, both sides had declared their intention to protest. However, on Monday, through the administration's mediation, both parties held a meeting and agreed not to hold demonstrations.
Border Security of Chambal Range
IG Arvind Saxena stated that after discussions with the Superintendents of Police of Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Ashoknagar, Guna, and Shivpuri districts within the Chambal Range, special checking points have been established on routes leading towards the city. Individuals arriving at these points are being interrogated to prevent any anti-social elements from entering Gwalior. This step has been taken to maintain law and order in the city and to prevent any untoward situation.
