Harry Brook is set to become the most expensive player in history at The Hundred, the franchise-based 100-ball tournament in England. Limited-overs captain Harry Brook, who previously played for Northern Superchargers, has seen his team’s 100% shares acquired by Sun Group.
Sports News: The next season of The Hundred, England’s franchise-based 100-ball league, will be held in 2026. Prior to this, all eight franchises have been granted the ability to retain a maximum of four players. Harry Brook is now recognized as the most expensive player in the league’s history.
Harry Brook and Sunrisers Leeds’ Strategy
Harry Brook began playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred from 2021, and was subsequently appointed captain in the 2024 season. Following Sun Group’s purchase of the team’s 100% shares, the team’s name has been changed to Sunrisers Leeds. After lengthy negotiations to secure his retention, a significant sum was agreed upon to keep Brook within the team.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Sunrisers Leeds has also secured the services of Briden Carse (English fast bowler) and Mitchell Marsh (Australian T20 captain) for the upcoming season. Daniel Vithori will take on the role of head coach.

Retention Rules in The Hundred
Ahead of the next season of The Hundred, all franchises have been given the opportunity to retain four players. Sunrisers Leeds acted swiftly in this regard, deciding to retain their captain Brook at the highest price. This strategic move is considered crucial for the team, due to Brook’s captaincy and playing ability.
However, Harry Brook is currently unable to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a two-year ban. This ban was imposed after he unexpectedly withdrew his participation following his inclusion in the Delhi Capitals during the 2025 auction. Under the new IPL rules, players who are selected in the auction cannot refuse to become part of a team without a valid reason.
