IAS Monika Rani has been appointed as the Director-General of the Uttar Pradesh School Education Department. Formerly a government school teacher and an IAS officer of the UPSC 2010 batch, Monika Rani has planned to focus specially on improving the quality of education, increasing enrollment, and motivating teachers. Her goal is to bring innovation and holistic improvement to the education sector.

Uttar Pradesh: IAS Monika Rani has been appointed as Director-General. Last Friday, she commenced her new role by holding a meeting with officials and staff. Monika Rani, who previously served as a teacher in a government school and is an IAS officer of the UPSC 2010 batch, shared her priorities of increasing school enrollment, improving the quality of education, and placing special emphasis on teacher motivation. Her objective is to promote holistic improvement and technological innovation in the state's education sector.

Commencement of New Role and Priorities

IAS Monika Rani has been appointed as the Director-General of the Uttar Pradesh School Education Department. Previously, she served as Additional DG and Special Secretary for School Education within the education department. Last Friday, she assumed the charge as Director-General and shared her priorities during a meeting with officials and staff. Her focus is on increasing school enrollment, improving the quality of education, and ensuring the timely construction of CM Model and Abhyuday Composite Schools.

She also outlined plans for the better utilization of ICT labs, developing a scientific approach among children, and specifically focusing on the education of girl students. This step will promote holistic improvement and technological innovation in the education sector.

New Direction and Inspiration for Teachers

Director-General Monika Rani emphasized encouraging teachers and making teaching engaging. She stated that teachers would be motivated to adopt modern and innovative teaching methods to improve the standard of learning and instruction. She also clarified that teachers are the backbone of the department, and her goal is not just to limit them to teaching, but to make them a source of inspiration for children.

Additionally, she discussed important programs like Mission Shakti and Viksit Bharat with officials and staff. Information regarding the functioning of various units of the department was gathered, and future plans were deliberated upon, which will enable improvements in implementation and monitoring.

First a Teacher, Then an IAS Officer

IAS Monika Rani began her career as a teacher in a government school. From 2004 to 2010, she served as a teacher in Delhi's government schools. An IAS officer of the 2010 batch, UP cadre, Monika Rani secured the 70th rank nationwide in the UPSC Civil Services Examination and was selected for the Indian Administrative Service.

Educational and Administrative Background

Monika Rani is a native of Gurugram, Haryana, and holds B.Com and M.A. (Economics) degrees. Her first posting was as Joint Magistrate in Ghaziabad on July 11, 2012. Subsequently, in February 2014, she became the CDO of Saharanpur and has served as District Magistrate (DM) in Chitrakoot, Bahraich, and Farrukhabad.
