IGL Reduces CNG Prices in Karnal by ₹1 per kg

Good news for CNG vehicle owners! Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has reduced the price of CNG in Karnal by ₹1 per kg. The price has decreased from ₹84.43 per kg to ₹83.43 per kg. IGL has lowered CNG prices in Karnal, Haryana, by ₹1 per kg. The new prices will be effective from 6:00 AM on Monday.

This reduction is in response to the declining international prices of natural gas. Currently, there are no price changes in other cities, but relief is expected soon.

Initial Relief for CNG Consumers

There is welcome news for CNG vehicle users across the country. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has reduced the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Karnal, Haryana, by ₹1 per kg. The new price of CNG in Karnal is ₹83.43 per kg, down from ₹84.43 per kg. The new prices will come into effect from 6 AM on Monday.

Why Only Karnal?

IGL's price reduction is currently limited to Karnal consumers. The company has not announced any price revisions for other cities. However, sources suggest that price reductions in cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Kanpur may be announced soon. A possible strategy behind this single-city reduction could be IGL's desire to assess market response and logistical impact before implementing reductions in other locations in a phased manner.

Decline in Natural Gas Prices

Both CNG and PNG (Piped Natural Gas) are derived from natural gas. The central government recently revised natural gas prices. The price of gas from non-auctioned fields allocated to companies like ONGC has been reduced from $6.75 per MMBTU to $6.41. This is the first price decrease since the new pricing formula came into effect in April 2023. This reduction has led to expectations that gas distribution companies will provide relief to consumers.

Consumer Savings

The ₹1 reduction in CNG prices in Karnal will directly impact daily commuters. A user consuming 10 kg of CNG daily will save approximately ₹300 per month. This relief could prove significant in the long run, especially for those who commute regularly or are taxi/auto drivers.

Expert Opinion

Energy experts believe that while global natural gas prices have fallen by up to 5%, input cost pressure remains on companies. This is why the full benefit of the price reduction is not being directly transferred to consumers. Nevertheless, it's a positive sign that distribution companies are gradually providing relief. Continued stability in the international gas market and domestic policy could lead to further consumer relief in other cities.

IGL's decision suggests that phased price reductions in other cities may follow. This would be a welcome step for consumers and could offer some relief from rising energy costs. However, the extent of any further reductions will depend entirely on gas market prices, supply chain costs, and policy changes.
