Incidents at IIT in recent months
This is the seventh student suicide at IIT Kanpur in the past 22 months. While a counseling team is available from the administration, these continuous incidents suggest that the team appears unable to manage the mental health of the students effectively.
Experts believe that students often come under severe mental pressure due to the stress of hostel life and examinations. The IIT administration now needs to adopt more effective mental health measures for its students.
Family and Personal Information
Dheeraj Saini was the youngest of three siblings. His father, Satish, works as a confectioner, while his mother, Saroj Bala, is a homemaker. He has an elder brother, Neeraj, and a sister, Monika, who is already married. The family is deeply shocked by this incident and will arrive in Kanpur soon.
Police state that the cause of death will only be clear after the family's presence and subsequent interrogation. Currently, no suicide note has been found at the scene.
Police Investigation
ACP Ranjit Kumar stated that information regarding the discovery of an IIT student's body has been received. The cause of death will be clarified only after the deceased's family arrives. Police surveyed the crime scene and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Police are also investigating whether any external pressure affected the deceased's mental state or if it is purely a case of mental health. The IIT administration has stated that more counseling and support will be provided to students in the future to prevent such tragic incidents.
