The Meteorological Department has informed that snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir might begin in the first week of October this year. Meanwhile, the rafting season has also commenced in Reasi district, and tourists are arriving in large numbers to enjoy the adventure sport.

Which Areas Will Experience Snowfall?

The Meteorological Department stated that the first snowfall of the 2025-2026 season is possible between October 5 and 7. According to the department, the weather in the Kashmir Valley is set to change in the first week of October due to a Western Disturbance. This will likely bring snowfall to higher altitudes and rain to the plains.

Specifically, snowfall is expected from the evening of October 5 and 6 in the regions of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Amarnath Cave, Sonmarg, and Zojila. A significant drop in temperature can be anticipated due to the snowfall. Weather experts advise tourists to plan ahead to prepare for winter and enjoy the snowfall.

Weather Change in Ladakh and Himachal

The impact of the Western Disturbance will not be limited to Jammu and Kashmir alone. Its effect is also expected to bring a drop in temperature and a possibility of rain/snowfall in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. Snowfall in the higher regions of Ladakh has boosted enthusiasm in the local tourism industry.

In Himachal Pradesh, areas like Manali, Kullu, and Rohtang are also showing signs of early snowfall this year. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens and tourists to remain alert and adopt safety measures when traveling to high-altitude areas.

Rafting Season Begins in Reasi District

On the other hand, the rafting season has commenced in Reasi district. The Chenab River flowing through Baradari, along with its surrounding forests and mountains, is attracting adventure sports enthusiasts. Tourists from across the country are arriving here to enjoy rafting.

Local administration and the tourism department have strengthened safety arrangements. Trained guides, life jackets, and other safety equipment are being provided during rafting. This ensures that tourists can safely and enjoyably experience the adventure sport.
