Amid continued monsoon activity across the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and b winds across 19 states on August 12, 2026. Wind speeds in some areas could reach up to 90 kilometres per hour.
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are among the states expected to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and b winds on August 12. The weather systems are expected to increase rainfall activity across several parts of central, eastern and north-western India.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. In addition, a low-pressure area has formed over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh.
Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are expected to experience adverse weather conditions on August 12. Several areas could receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Strong winds could damage trees, electricity poles and weak structures. In the hill states, heavy rainfall could also increase the risk of landslides and road disruptions.
Delhi is expected to receive heavy rainfall and b winds on August 12, with wind speeds likely to remain around 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature is forecast at around 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at around 29 degrees Celsius. Rainfall could lead to waterlogging in some parts of the national capital and affect traffic.
In Uttar Pradesh, rainfall and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for several districts, including Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Bahraich, Balrampur, Ambedkar Nagar, Varanasi, Chandauli, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Shahjahanpur, Rampur, Unnao, Prayagraj, Deoria and Gorakhpur. Some areas could experience winds reaching 70 to 80 kilometres per hour. Lucknow is expected to record a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast in Bihar districts including Gaya, Patna, West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Buxar, Saran, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Araria, Begusarai and Bhagalpur. Several areas could experience b winds at speeds of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour.
In Jharkhand, Palamu, Latehar, Gumla, Garhwa, Simdega, Ranchi, West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Sahibganj, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur and Chatra could experience rainfall and b winds on August 12 and 13. Ranchi is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius.
In Uttarakhand, an alert for rainfall and b winds has been issued for Nainital, Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora, Bageshwar and Champawat. Himachal Pradesh is also expected to experience adverse weather in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Sirmaur.
Rainfall and b winds are also forecast in Jammu and Kashmir districts including Poonch, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua and Samba. Travellers in hilly areas have been advised to monitor local weather and road-related updates.
In Rajasthan, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in Bundi, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Kota, Pali, Bikaner, Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer and Bharatpur on August 12. Several areas could experience b winds at speeds of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour.
