The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for August 8, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of the country. At least 16 states in northern, eastern, central and western India are likely to experience adverse weather conditions, with winds reaching speeds of up to 75 kilometres per hour in some areas.
The IMD has issued an alert for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kerala for heavy rainfall and b winds. Mountainous states may face landslides and road blockages.
Several parts of eastern India may also witness an increase in lightning incidents. Farmers, fishermen and people living near rivers have been advised to exercise additional caution.
Delhi is likely to receive heavy rainfall and b winds on August 8. The maximum temperature is forecast at around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 28 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain may affect traffic and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Widespread rainfall is also likely in western, central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Meerut, Noida, Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and other districts may receive rain accompanied by b winds. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 55 kilometres per hour at several locations.

Several districts of Bihar are under a warning for heavy rainfall and stormy weather accompanied by thunder and lightning. Patna and parts of northern and eastern Bihar may face waterlogging and localised flooding.
Heavy rainfall is likely in Ranchi, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, Dumka and surrounding areas of Jharkhand. Winds may reach speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, potentially affecting power supply and traffic.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall amid ongoing rain. Dehradun, Nainital, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba districts may receive heavy rain, with a possibility of landslides.
Several areas of Jammu and Kashmir are also forecast to receive heavy rainfall and b winds. People travelling through vulnerable mountainous areas have been advised to keep a close watch on weather updates.
Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Alwar, Sikar and Jhunjhunu among other districts of Rajasthan may receive heavy rainfall and b thunderstorms. Wind speeds may reach up to 65 kilometres per hour in some areas.
Monsoon activity is also likely to remain active across several parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra, while Kerala may continue to experience rainfall.
