Across the country, the monsoon has become active once again. While many states, including Delhi-NCR, are facing humid heat, mountainous regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal have suffered significant damage from natural disasters such as cloudbursts and landslides.
Weather Update: According to the latest information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon's withdrawal has begun in several parts of the country. Rain is expected in Northeast India and some other states from September 20. This weather change is being felt as heat and humidity in North India, while the threat of disasters like cloudbursts and landslides persists in hilly areas.
Weather Conditions Across the Country
According to the IMD report, a new low-pressure area is likely to form around September 25 over the east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal, off the Myanmar-Bangladesh coast. This has prompted a warning of heavy rainfall in Northeast India and some coastal states.
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 20.
- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in Northeast India: Rain expected from September 20–23.
- West India (Central Maharashtra and Marathwada): Heavy rainfall likely in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has warned that flood-like situations and surface waterlogging may occur in these regions, so people need to remain vigilant.
Weather in Delhi-NCR
There is no likelihood of rain in Delhi and NCR until September 22. On September 20, the sky in the capital will remain mainly clear, although partly cloudy conditions might be seen in some areas. No significant change in temperature has been observed during the last 24 hours. Humid heat will persist, but no heavy rainfall is expected. Therefore, residents of Delhi-NCR will get relief from rain, but they need to be cautious of heat and humidity during the daytime.
Weather Conditions in Uttar Pradesh
The weather in Uttar Pradesh is changing. Some parts of Western UP are likely to experience light showers with rain and thunderstorms. In Eastern UP, rain is expected only in a few places, but heavy rainfall is not anticipated. On September 20 and 21, the weather in Western UP is likely to remain clear. Meanwhile, Eastern UP may experience isolated rain and thundershowers. Thus, UP's weather will be mixed — sometimes light rain and sometimes humid heat.
Bihar Weather Forecast
Light rainfall was recorded in Bihar on September 19. According to the Meteorological Department, light to heavy rain is expected in various parts of the state on September 20, 23, and 24. Despite this, humid heat may trouble residents in the state for the next few days.
- Uttarakhand: Possibility of light to moderate rainfall on September 19 and 20.
- Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir: Warning of b surface winds (30–40 km/h) on September 19.
