The women's teams of India and Pakistan are set to clash today in Colombo in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. Due to adverse weather conditions and a high probability of heavy rain, there is a risk of delay or cancellation of the match.
IND W vs PAK W: A thrilling encounter is scheduled between the women's teams of India and Pakistan on Sunday, October 5, in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The match is set to take place at Colombo's renowned R. Premadasa Stadium. This will be the sixth match of the tournament between the two teams, and millions of fans are eagerly awaiting it. However, the shadow of rain now looms over this highly anticipated clash, increasing the likelihood of the match being called off.
Recent India-Pakistan Encounter
The teams of India and Pakistan recently faced each other in the final of the Asia Cup 2025. This match was played on September 28, where Team India defeated Pakistan to clinch the title for the ninth time. Following that victory, the Indian team is now ready to take the field once again with the intention of overcoming Pakistan.
However, the situation is slightly different this time. Colombo's weather has been continuously changing, and a previous match has already been affected due to heavy rain. This is why fans are now wondering – will the India-Pakistan women's match be washed out by rain?
Rain Could Play Spoilsport
The weather in Colombo has been very poor for the past few days. On Friday, October 4, the match between Sri Lanka and Australia on the same ground was cancelled due to rain. Now, there is a possibility that the upcoming match between India and Pakistan might also follow the same fate.
According to the AccuWeather report, heavy rain is expected in Colombo from Sunday morning. The probability of rain is estimated to be around 70 percent until 11 AM. Although the rain might subside slightly by afternoon, the start of the match could be delayed due to a wet pitch and outfield.
Day-long Weather Forecast
As per the report, dense cloud cover will persist in the morning. Around 2:30 PM, light rain with thunderstorms might occur in some areas. During this time, the temperature will be approximately 28 degrees Celsius, and the probability of rain will decrease to about 33 percent.
Subsequently, light to moderate rain has been predicted once again between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM, which could increase the probability of rain to approximately 60 percent. During this period, wind speeds will range from 7 to 9 kilometers per hour.
As evening approaches, the rain may gradually subside. Intermittent drizzles might occur until 5:30 PM, while after 6:30 PM, the sky will remain overcast. The temperature will be around 27°C during this time, but due to humidity, players might face both perspiration and slipperiness.
From 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM, a slight respite in the weather is expected. During this period, the probability of rain will only be between 20 to 24 percent. However, dense clouds will persist in the sky, meaning the possibility of rain returning during the game cannot be ruled out.
Could the Match Be Cancelled?
According to the meteorological department and local sources, if rain continues persistently after noon, there is a high possibility of the match being cancelled. While the R. Premadasa Stadium has a good Drainage System, it takes a long time to dry the outfield after heavy rainfall.
If rain occurs after the match has started and play cannot be resumed, the result could be declared a draw or a No Result. In such a scenario, both teams would be awarded one point each.
Team India's Strong Start
The Indian women's team has commenced its World Cup campaign in an impressive manner. In their opening match on September 30, Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 59 runs via the DLS method.
In this match, both India's batting and bowling were excellent. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana played responsibly, while in bowling, Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh Thakur put pressure on the opposing team.
On the other hand, Pakistan had a disappointing start. The team suffered a 7-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in their first match. Pakistani batters performed poorly against both spin and fast bowling, and the team is still searching for its first victory.
