India and Fiji Sign Seven Agreements to Boost Cooperation in Key Sectors

PM Modi Meets Fiji PM Rabuka: Seven Bilateral Agreements Signed to Enhance Cooperation in Trade, Defence, Health, and Education Sectors. This Will Elevate India-Fiji Relations to New Heights.

India-Fiji Relation: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting was held to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss shared interests. The two leaders discussed in detail enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defence, and security.

Boost to Trade and Investment

At the meeting, India and Fiji placed special emphasis on increasing cooperation in the field of trade and investment. PM Modi said that although the geographical distance between the two countries is great, the aspirations and development goals of both countries are the same. Fiji and India have decided to take their trade partnership to new heights.

Defence and Security Cooperation

Both leaders also decided to strengthen mutual cooperation in the field of defence and security. Coordination and training programs between the Indian Navy and Fiji's security forces were discussed. PM Modi informed that a detailed action plan has been finalized to enhance security cooperation.

Cooperation in Climate Change and Disaster Management

PM Modi said that climate change is a serious threat to Fiji. India will help Fiji in disaster management and dealing with climate change. He assured Fiji of technical and humanitarian assistance.

Fiji PM's Visit to India

Fijian Prime Minister Rabuka arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit. This is his first visit to India as the Prime Minister of the South Pacific region. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Health Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and several senior officials.

Seven Important Agreements Signed

During the meeting, India and Fiji signed seven important bilateral agreements. These agreements will further enhance cooperation between the two countries and bring efficiency in various sectors.

  1. MOU for Super-Specialty Hospital
    India and Fiji have signed an agreement to build and operate a super-specialty hospital in Fiji. Its aim is to strengthen health services and provide specialist services at the regional level.
  2. Supply of Medicines Under Jan Aushadhi Scheme
    India has agreed to supply essential medicines to Fiji under the Jan Aushadhi scheme. Its aim is to ensure the availability of affordable and effective medicines in health services.
  3. Standardization Cooperation Between BIS and DNTMS
    An MOU was signed between BIS and DNTMS for standardization and quality control between the two countries. This will increase the quality of products and services and bring transparency in trade transactions.
  4. Cooperation in Skilling and Upskilling
    An MOU was signed between India's NIELIT and Fiji's Pacific POLYTECH for skilling and upskilling. This will boost the capabilities of youth and professionals and create employment opportunities.
  5. Indian Grant Assistance for Quick Impact Projects (QIP)
    India has signed an MOU to provide grant assistance for implementing Quick Impact Projects in Fiji. This project will help in regional development and social welfare.
  6. Declaration of Intent on Migration and Mobility
    Both countries signed a Declaration of Intent on Migration and Mobility. Its aim is to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of human resources, education, and employment.
  7. Lease Deed of Indian Chancellery Building in Suva
    The lease deed of the Indian Chancellery Building located in Fiji was handed over. This will ensure India's permanent presence and smooth operation of diplomatic work.

Benefits Related to Cooperation

These agreements will strengthen strategic, economic, and social cooperation between the two countries. This will take the partnership between India and Fiji to new heights in the fields of trade, health, education, and defence.
