Severe Heatwave Sweeps Northern India, While South Experiences Heavy Rainfall

A severe heatwave is currently impacting northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region, significantly disrupting daily life. Temperatures are consistently reaching dangerous levels, causing various health problems for the population.

Weather Forecast: Northern India is experiencing an intense heatwave. Temperatures in states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan have exceeded 45 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi-NCR and several other areas. Conversely, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana in South India are experiencing heavy rainfall, offering relief from the heat. While heatstroke and hot winds have severely disrupted life in some parts of the country, heavy rainfall in others has raised concerns about potential flooding.

Delhi-NCR: Heatwave Intensifies Problems

Temperatures in the national capital Delhi and surrounding areas have reached 45 degrees Celsius. Strong surface winds and dust storms on Tuesday exacerbated the heat. According to meteorologists, the heatwave may intensify in the coming days due to incoming northwesterly hot winds.

Haryana and Punjab: Overwhelmed by Heat

Sirsa in Haryana recorded a temperature exceeding 46 degrees Celsius, the highest of the season. Rohtak, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Bhiwani also experienced temperatures between 44-45 degrees Celsius. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert with a heatwave warning for these districts. Punjab cities like Ludhiana, Patiala, and Amritsar also experienced a severe heatwave, with maximum temperatures 3-5 degrees above normal. Further temperature increases are anticipated due to northwesterly winds.

Rajasthan: Temperatures Above 40°C in 40 Districts

Bikaner, Jodhpur, Churu, Barmer, and Sikar in Rajasthan continue to experience a heatwave, with daytime temperatures consistently between 44-46 degrees Celsius. However, the meteorological department has offered some relief, predicting rain in some areas from June 14th. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in Kota, Jhalawar, Banswara, and Dungarpur districts, potentially leading to a slight temperature drop.

South India: Rainfall Brings Relief, but Heightened Alert Status

While northern India endures the heat, pre-monsoon rainfall has provided relief to parts of South India. Heavy rainfall warnings with winds up to 50-70 km/h have been issued for Chikmagalur, Shivamogga, and Kodagu districts in central Karnataka. Heavy rain alerts are also in effect for coastal and inland areas. Chennai and surrounding areas are predicted to experience moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms, along with winds of 30-60 km/h and a risk of lightning.

Andhra Pradesh's Rayalaseema and coastal regions are experiencing thunderstorms and rain. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in the Yanam region. Telangana is experiencing light to moderate rainfall, with the possibility of heavier downpours in some locations.
