India Heatwave: Severe Heat Grips North, Relief Expected in South

A severe heatwave continues to grip northern India, including Delhi, with heatwave alerts issued for several states. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are not expected to change significantly in the coming days.

Weather Forecast: Delhi-NCR and many parts of northern India are experiencing intense heat and a heatwave. Delhi's temperatures have soared since the beginning of June. While Tuesday morning was humid, the afternoon heatwave made it difficult for people to venture outdoors. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded Delhi's minimum temperature at 35°C and the maximum at 43°C on Tuesday, significantly higher than normal.

Heatwave in Rajasthan, Heatwave Alert for Western India

A heatwave is predicted for western Rajasthan from June 10th to 16th. The Meteorological Department also forecasts the possibility of a severe heatwave in isolated areas of eastern Rajasthan until June 13th. People are advised to avoid venturing outdoors between 12 pm and 4 pm. Furthermore, temperatures in states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Madhya Pradesh may exceed 45°C in the coming days. Along with the heat, many areas are expected to experience "hot nights," offering little respite from the heat and potentially affecting sleep.

No significant temperature change is expected in northwest India for the next four days. However, a 2-4°C drop may occur afterward. Central and eastern India will also experience heat for the next two to three days, followed by a gradual temperature decrease.

Relief in South India, Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Likely

Rainfall has brought relief to southern states. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Tamil Nadu for the next seven days. Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh may experience b winds (30-50 km/h) and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal around June 14th. Fishermen and farmers have been advised to exercise caution.

Onset of Rainfall in Western India

Light to moderate rainfall and b winds are expected in Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada on June 11th. Heavy rainfall with winds reaching 50-60 km/h is predicted for these regions from June 12th to 16th. Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in Konkan and Goa on June 13th and 14th.

Weather in Central and Eastern India

Thunderstorms and b winds are likely in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh from June 11th to 14th. Strong winds (60-70 km/h) are possible in Bihar on June 12th and 13th, potentially affecting agricultural activities and transportation. Intermittent rainfall is expected in the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next seven days, providing some respite from the heat.

Light Rainfall in Northern India

While northern India is battling intense heat, the Meteorological Department forecasts light to moderate rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana between June 12th and 16th. Heavy rainfall is also possible in Uttarakhand, prompting caution for travelers and locals. Light rainfall is expected in western Rajasthan from June 14th to 16th, potentially offering some relief from the severe heatwave.

Increased Monsoon Activity in Northeast India

Heavy rainfall will continue in the northeastern states for the next seven days. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura can expect heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and b winds. Wind speeds may reach 40 km/h on June 10th and 11th.
