This project aims to connect India, the Middle East (countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE), and Europe (countries like Italy and Greece). The corridor will encompass railway lines, ports, undersea internet cables, and roads, facilitating the rapid movement of goods, oil, gas, and data between nations.
Why is IMEC being created?
The objective is to directly link India with Europe and the Middle East, accelerating trade and shortening routes. Currently, much trade relies on the Suez Canal, which is prone to blockages and delays. Therefore, India, along with the United States and Europe, is developing this alternative route, which is also seen as a counter to China's Belt and Road Initiative.
