India Monsoon Update: High Alert Issued for Mumbai, Flood Fears Rise Nationwide

The monsoon has gained momentum across the country, leading to flood-like conditions in several states due to heavy rainfall. Rivers are overflowing, and coastal areas are on high alert.

IMD Alert: The monsoon is at its peak in India, and its impact is being rapidly observed in various parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high tide alert for Mumbai. According to reports, waves of 4.37 meters, or approximately 15 feet high, are expected to rise around 11:14 AM today. This warning is particularly important for citizens residing near the coast and for the administration.

Threat of Sea Waves and Weather Conditions in Mumbai

According to the IMD, Mumbai will experience heavy cloud cover today with the possibility of heavy rainfall. Additionally, wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, potentially causing waterlogging in low-lying areas. Lifeguards and rescue teams stationed at the beaches have been instructed to remain vigilant. Citizens are also advised to stay away from coastal areas.

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for the Konkan region, indicating that vigilance is required due to heavy rainfall and potential hazards. Intermittent rainfall has been ongoing in the western suburbs of Mumbai since morning, affecting daily life.

Clouds and Humidity in Delhi-NCR

The monsoon remains active in the capital Delhi and the NCR as well. While heavy rainfall was observed on Wednesday evening, Thursday morning saw dark, dense clouds covering the sky. Although there has been intermittent rainfall, the humid heat has increased people's discomfort. According to weather experts, more rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR in the next 24 to 48 hours.

In Telangana, the administration has become active in view of heavy rains in the Cyberabad area. Cyberabad police has issued an advisory to IT companies and other corporates to allow their employees to Work from Home (WFH) so that traffic, safety and services are not affected.

Police shared information on X (formerly Twitter) that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers with b winds (30-40 km/h) in many parts of the city. Due to this, traffic may be disrupted and power supply may also be disrupted.

Rain Havoc and Flood Fears Across the Country

In many other states of the country like Bihar, Assam, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh also, rivers are in spate and flood-like conditions have arisen due to heavy rains. Schools have had to be closed in some areas and relief and rescue operations have been started. This rapid activity of monsoon can be considered beneficial for the agricultural sector, but it has become challenging in cities and coastal areas. In such a situation, people have been appealed to follow the warnings of the Meteorological Department and avoid unnecessary travel.
