India Reaffirms Support for Two-State Solution in Israel-Palestine Conflict at UN

India has reiterated its support for the two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict at the United Nations. India stressed the urgent need for a practical solution, a ceasefire, and humanitarian assistance.

UN Update: At a recent high-level conference at the United Nations concerning a lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, India affirmed that the two-state solution remains the only viable option for resolving this long-standing conflict. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, the Permanent Representative of India, stated that we need to take concrete steps that have an impact on the ground, not just paper solutions.

India's Emphasis on Dialogue and Diplomacy

Ambassador Harish said that the global community should now focus on how to initiate direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine in order to restore trust between both parties. He said that support for the two-state solution should not be limited to declarations, but we must identify practical measures that can make this solution possible.

India's Historical Stance

On this occasion, India also reiterated that it has been in favor of Palestinian independence and nation-building from the beginning. In 1988, India was among the first countries to recognize Palestine as an independent nation. India believes that an independent Palestine is essential for stability and peace in the Middle East region.

Concerns over Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

India expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. India said that the deaths of thousands of civilians, the collapse of medical facilities, and the disruption of children's education are extremely serious issues. India clearly stated that humanitarian aid should reach Gaza without any hindrance. Providing food, fuel, and other essential items to Palestinians should be a priority.

The UN's Stance on Hamas's Role

The 25-page outcome document released during the conference stated that Hamas must end its rule in Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority. In addition, the formation of an administrative committee in Gaza was also mentioned immediately after the ceasefire, in order to run the administration there smoothly.

No Support for Terrorism

In its statement, India stated that terrorism is unacceptable in any form. India said that whether it is a political problem or any other issue, terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances. India also clarified that civilians, especially women and children, have the full right to live a normal life, and protecting their lives is the responsibility of the global community.

Emphasis on Constructive Solutions and Reconstruction

Ambassador Harish said that there is not only a need for reconstruction in Gaza, but also to strengthen the economic structure there so that employment opportunities can be increased for the people. India is already working on several human-centric projects in this direction. India's total assistance to Palestine has reached approximately US$160 million.
