World News: Once again, tension was palpable between India and Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his speech, accused India while advocating for peace, to which India delivered a sharp retort. India unequivocally stated that if Pakistan genuinely desires peace, it must cease supporting terrorism and immediately hand over terrorists wanted in India.
This response from India was delivered by First Secretary Petal Gahlot at India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations. She termed the Pakistani Prime Minister's statement as "hypocritical" and highlighted a significant divergence between Pakistan's words and its actions.
Shehbaz Sharif's Speech and India's Response
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed in his address that his country desires peace with India. He further stated that India and Pakistan should collaborate for regional stability and development. India, however, completely dismissed this, asserting that Pakistan's true character lies in promoting terrorism. Petal Gahlot stated:
If the Prime Minister of Pakistan is truly sincere, he should immediately shut down all terrorist camps. Terrorists wanted in India should not receive safe haven from Pakistan; instead, they should be handed over to India.
India Exposes Pakistan's True Face
The Indian representative highlighted Pakistan's dual standards at the United Nations General Assembly. She stated that Pakistan's political and public discourse is replete with hatred, extremism, and intolerance. In this context, Pakistan's assertion of desiring peace is entirely a pretense. Gahlot remarked, "It is ironic that a country which fosters the ideology of hatred and terrorism here preaches faith and peace. Pakistan needs to look in the mirror, but perhaps it is too late."
India also warned Pakistan that terrorism, in any form, would not be tolerated. India made it clear that both terrorists and their sponsors are equally responsible and will be held accountable. Gahlot stated, "We will not permit terrorism to thrive under the guise of nuclear blackmail. India remains steadfast in its stringent policy against terrorism."
India's Stance on Bilateral Issues
India reiterated at the United Nations that any outstanding issue between India and Pakistan would be resolved solely through bilateral dialogue. There can be no role for any third party in this matter. This is India's long-standing national policy, and there will be no compromise on it. Broken runways and burnt hangars are not Pakistan's victory. India also responded to some claims made by Pakistan. Specifically, Pakistan had asserted that Indian action caused damage to its military bases, yet it was attempting to present this as its "victory."
Responding sharply, Gahlot stated, "If broken runways and burnt hangars are symbols of victory, then Pakistan is welcome to relish them. The truth is that, as in the past, Pakistan is responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians in India. India has merely exercised its right to protect its citizens."
