The second day's play of the second Test match between India and England has concluded. India, after a fantastic batting performance in their first innings, scored 587 runs, but the entire team was all out on the second day. In response, England had a poor start and lost three wickets early.

Sports News: The second day of the second Test match between India and England at Edgbaston completely belonged to the Indian team. India built a massive score of 587 runs in the first innings, thanks to Shubman Gill's historic double century and Ravindra Jadeja's composed half-century. In response, England scored 77 runs for three wickets by the end of the day's play and is currently trailing by 510 runs.

At stumps, England batsmen Harry Brook (30 runs) and Joe Root (18 runs) were at the crease. They have a 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which has currently saved England from further setbacks after losing the first three wickets quickly.

Gill's Historic Innings

On the second day, the Indian team resumed their innings at 310 runs for five wickets. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja put on a crucial 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket, putting the team in a b position. Jadeja played a valuable innings of 89 runs, while Gill scored a memorable double century, making 269 runs. His innings displayed a tremendous balance of patience, technique, and aggression.

After Jadeja was out, Gill continued the innings with Washington Sundar. Sundar contributed 42 runs, while Gill completed his double century before the tea break and continued to play aggressively. However, Gill was out as the eighth wicket, with India's score at 574 runs. The last two wickets fell within just 13 runs, and the entire team was all out for 587 runs.

Shoaib Bashir was the most successful bowler for England, taking three wickets. Apart from him, Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue took two wickets each, while Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, and Joe Root took one wicket each.

Akash Deep's Fury on England's Innings

England's start was very poor. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep took charge of the Indian attack and shocked England by taking two wickets in two consecutive balls in the very first over. He had Ben Duckett caught by Shubman Gill and then dismissed Ollie Pope LBW on the very next ball. Both Duckett and Pope could not open their account.

The third blow was delivered by Mohammed Siraj, who sent Zak Crawley back to the pavilion for 19 runs. Crawley hit three boundaries in 30 balls, but was bowled by Siraj before getting into a rhythm. England was under pressure after losing three wickets quickly, but Harry Brook and Joe Root showed composure and put on a 52-run partnership, saving the team from a worse situation for now.

India in a Strong Position

At stumps, England's score was 77 runs for three wickets, and they are still 510 runs behind India's massive score. In this situation, the challenge for England on the third day will be to somehow avoid the follow-on in the first innings and reduce the margin of defeat. The way Indian bowlers Akash Deep and Siraj took the initial wickets makes it clear that the Indian attack is in full rhythm. Despite Jasprit Bumrah's absence, the accuracy and discipline shown by the Indian bowling were commendable.

England's hopes will now rest on the partnership of Brook and Root. Both ended the first day with composure, but India will once again be looking to get early success at the start of the next day and tighten their grip on England completely.
