In the match, India won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be a completely correct decision. Indian bowlers put pressure on the South African batsmen from the beginning. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and the entire team was all out for 117 runs in 20 overs. Captain Aiden Markram was the only one who stood firm for South Africa, scoring 61 runs off 46 balls with six fours and two sixes.

Shubman Gill scored 28 runs off 28 balls, but was bowled by Marco Jansen. Tilak Varma was then given an opportunity in the upper order, who, along with Gill, stabilized the team. Captain Suryakumar Yadav once again failed to play a big innings and was dismissed for 12 runs. However, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube then took no risks and steered the team to victory.
